Tour the Chicago History Museum’s current exhibition
with Conservator Julie Benner.

In October 2024, the Chicago History Museum celebrated major milestones for its Costume Collection and Costume Council with the opening of its current exhibition, Dressed in History: A Costume Collection Retrospective. The exhibition features over 70 artifacts, some never previously displayed, an eclectic mix of men’s, women’s and children’s garments and accessories that range from Couture designer ensembles to home-sewn items. The exhibition highlights the long, rich history of fashion, manufacturing and
retail that has distinguished the city’s identity for nearly 200 years. Both past and present curators of the museum’s Costume Collection participated in
the selection of items on display.
The variety of costumes, textiles, and
accessories presented several different
challenges to the conservation team, for
treatment, mounting, and installation. Join Julie Benner, Assistant Conservator of Costume and Textiles, for a tour of the exhibition and discussion of how CHM conservation, collections, and exhibitions staff approached these challenges to bring some rarely seen collections objects to the public.

Public parking is located one block north of the Museum at Clark and LaSalle Streets; enter the lot from Stockton Drive. The cost is $10 with Museum validation. Metered parking spaces may also be found on nearby streets, and another parking facility is located near the NW corner of North Avenue at Well Street.
This meeting is open to all – CACG membership is not required to attend.
Please RSVP to CACG@chicagoareaconservation.org.
We will gather for drinks and food (cash bar) at Corcoran’s Grill & Pub after the tour, at 1615 N. Wells St. Please RSVP separately if you plan to join us.
