Malvina Hoffman
Conservation Project
at the
Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, Il.
The Malvina Hoffman Conservation Project is a one-year effort to physically examine, document, and treat 93 life-size bronze sculptures.
The project also includes a limited study of the associated plaster models that reflect changes in Hoffman's designs along with primary archival research using Field Museum records and other arhcives. In addition, the chemical analysis and visual characterization of the individual patinas aid in understanding their chemical deterioration processes in order to clean and repair the sculptures.
